God helps us learn

The theme for Lesson 2 is God helps us learn.
Proverbs 2:6 - God helps us learn.

I went through this, picture by picture with Abigail. Asked her one by one whether is she able to do it?
Picture 1 - tie my shoe
(she can wear her shoes but not tie her shoes, I circle it as she is not able to do it yet)
Picture 2 - brush my teeth
(I put a tick as she's able to brush her own teeth without any help)
Picture 3 - wash my hands
(I put a tick as she's able to wash her own hands without any help, even with soap)
Picture 4 - arrange my books
(I give her a tick, she can arrange her books but not in perfect order, well... still deserve a tick)
Picture 5 - make my bed
(she is still learning to fold her blanket, I circle it... area to improve)
Picture 6 - kick a ball
(Oh yes! she can kick a ball! A big tick for this!)

I prepared a map like this

Then draw different shapes on it.
I asked Abigail to name me what shapes she wanted, as she said, I drew it.
After that, I hold her hand, teaching her how to use the scissors.
She's ok with straight line, still need guidance. Not able to do it on her own yet. Need to have more practices on this. After cutting them out, I stick it on a black paper and then get her to stick the right shapes at the right place. From here, she can learn a few things.
1. What is a map. How did a map look like? Where are we staying? Where are other countries?
2. Shapes (the child may knew it already)
3. Cutting/using scissors
4. Matching shapes and sticking.
It's simple and fun. Abigail likes it! :)

Painting time again.

more Angels...

The continuation of last lesson.

Story taken from Luke 2:20
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Objective:
God fulfilled His promise by sending the Messiah, the Saviour to come to this earth and to save mankind from sins.

Memory Verse:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Craft:
1. Cut paper plate into half
2. Take one half and seal the ends together to form a cone shape.
3. Cut hands and wings out of the other half of the plate and stick on the cone.
4. Draw eyes on the face and glue to the body. Use toothpick at the back to keep the head up.
5. Make a halo as deco.

Angel

We have started the Christmas lessons for the last two weeks.

We started with the story of Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her that God has chosen her and she will be pregnant and to name this baby Jesus. Then Angel Gabriel appeared to Joseph and asked him to take Mary as wife and take care of her and to name the baby, Jesus.

The details of the Bible Story:
Matthew 1:18-25
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[d]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[e] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[f] because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[g] (which means “God with us”).
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Luke 2:1-7
1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Objective:
God fulfilled His promise by sending the Messiah, the Saviour to come to this earth and to save mankind from sins.

Memory Verse:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Craft:
1. Get the child to trace his/her handprint on yellow paper and footprint on a foam.
2. After cutting them out, stick the handprint at the back of the footprint (as wings).
3. Draw a face and stick eyes for the angel.
4. Put a gold belt (and deco the belt if you want to) for the angel.

Thank You Card

17 Nov, 2010

It was a public holiday. We did not go anywhere... morning James brought Joshua to see doctor as he had a bad cough. Joshua had a nebulizer at the clinic and he's on antibiotic as he his throat was infected and it's red. He had no fever, just cough, flu and a lot of phlegm. After the nebulizer, he's very much better, less cough.

After Joshua went for his afternoon nap, I did a Thank You card with Abigail for her teacher as Friday will be the last day of the school. Ms Cheryl, her kindy teacher will stop teaching in her kindy and go for full timer worker in her church. So, I want Abigail to learn to thank her teacher for teaching her.

I prepared the materials:
1. a trophy on gold or silver paper (your choice)
2. 3 pockets for the card to write notes on it
3. a triangle shape paper for the trophy and small flowers in different colours
4. wording for the card (your choice for the wording)
5. photo (I suppose wanted to put Abigail & Ms Cheryl's photo but I don't manage to take a photo of them)

Craft:
After cutting out all the materials (paper).
1. I folded an A4 paper into half as my main card then I first get Abigail to stick (with help) the trophy on the paper. If your child cannot stick the paper orderly, you can hold her hands as you do the sticking.
2. After that I hold her hands to stick the three pocket at the side of the card. Then I get her to stick three flowers on the pocket. Up to her where she wants it to be and her choice of the colour.
3. Then I prepare three smaller red card to put three notes on it. "Thank you for teaching me ABC", Thank you for teaching me 123" and Thank you for loving me. I slot the three cards into the three pockets.
4. Then I hold her hands to write "Teacher of the Year 2010" on the yellow colour triangel shape paper and stick it on the trophy. Then I hold her hands to put some glittering items on it.
5. After the cover page is done and dry up. Then I get her to stick the wording inside, "God Loves You".
6. On the other side, I hold her hand and wrote "Thank you Ms Cheryl for teaching me".
7. And finally, I stick her photo on it and hold her hands to write her name on it.

The card is done!  :)

Jesus listened to the teachers

The continuation of Lesson 1 taken from Luke 2:41-52.

I repeat the story of Luke 2:41-52 with Abigail and as I share the story, I asked question to see how much she can remember. I repeat the story with her through out the week and by the time I cover this activity with her, she can remember a few highlight of the story like this,

When Jesus was 12 years old, his papa and mama brought him to Jerusalem for Passover Festival. After that, Jesus did not follow his papa and mama home. He stayed back in the church but his papa and mama did not know. After travelled one day, they realised that Jesus is not with them and they went back to find him. "Jesus! Jesus! Where are you!" His papa and mama went back to Jerusalem to find Jesus. At the end, they found Jesus was in the church, Jesus is listening to the teachers.

Those underlined were what Abigail can remember. As I share, I paused and she fill in the blank. :) She enjoy this way of sharing story where she can participate.

After the lesson, I get her to paint the verse, Luke 2:46 - Jesus listened to the teachers.

I first get her to trace her name then hold her hand to write the date.
Then I get her to choose a colour and I prepare the it for her.
I hold her hand to colour the letter J
and then she do the rest of all the letters.
Yes. without my help!
I just helped to prepare the colour.

It looks a little messy to me but she's so happy that she did this. After she completed this painting, she told me "mama, I'm very tired" :) I guess she really put all her effort in this painting.

A Church

I bought the TeamKid Preschool Book as Abigail's birthday gift. Yesterday I started lesson 1 with her.

Lesson 1 is taken from Luke 2:41-52 about Jesus at the temple when he was twelve years old.

The Boy Jesus at the Temple
Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom. After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."

"Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" But they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

After sharing the story with Abigail, I guide her to do a craft - build a church. This craft is to help her to remember that when Jesus was 12 years old, he went to a church and he stayed on and listen to the teachers.

Craft:
Material: six ice-cream stick, button, poster colour, (optional - windows, door and cross).
1. First, I get her to trace her name and write down the date.
2. Then stick those ice-cream sticks on the paper. (I left 4 long ice-cream sticks and 2 magnum ice-cream sticks, so I just make do)
3. After sticking all the sticks, then get her to paste the cross, windows and door which I've prepared for her. (you can draw them if you want too)
4. After all the sticking job is done, then we start colouring. We use two different green for the trees and bush. Optional: get child to choose a colour for the fruits on the tree and flower on the bush.
5. Abigail dip her finger tip into the poster colour and then dip on the paper. She chose red for the tree (she said apple tree) and her favourite pink as flower for the bush.
6. Then colour the three fingers into different green and print on the paper as grass.
7. Finally, stick a button as sun.

Children Craft Day

Date: 23 October, 2010
Time: 2-4pm
Venue: MDC, DU

It's an annual event for MDC to organise a craft day and this year the craft for the children is making a scrapbook.

We have two groups, the younger and older groups of children. The category of the younger group is from 3 to 8 years old and the older group is from 9 to 12 years old.

I'm helping out at the younger group. The younger group is much easier, all children has to follow the teacher design and they are called to follow what the teacher guide them. E.g. where to put the tree, the bushes, sheep, flowers and wording. Well, the children still have their choice, e.g. choice of the colour provided for them, choice of the position e.g. bush on the left or right and the placement and colour of the wording, lastly the placement of the flowers.

After they have completed with the cover, they need to stick the pocket (to hold the photo) for the pages inside. Abigail can do quite well, she likes all the sticking work however she has not come to the stage where she has to plan whether she has enough space or not and the matching of colours. I have to guide her along and maintime to guide other younger children as well.

Abigail's scrapbook on MDC Craft Day

For the older group, it's all their creativity. They design their own cover and do what they like. They can follow the teacher's example or do what they want. Paper materials are all provided.

Church School Lesson: One Way For All

John 14:6
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Objective:
To teach that although God invites everyone to come to Him, we must come through the Lord Jesus, the only way; those who refuse to do so will be shut out.

Lesson:
A king sent invitations for his son's wedding. Food and wedding coats were prepared. The invited guests refused to go. People from the streets were invited instead. Many came and were given coats.
The wedding is a picture of Heaven. Christians are to invites everyone to go there. There is only one way to get there - through Jesus.

Craft:
1. Prepared satay sticks, cut ready cloud shapes and a red button.
2. Cut the satay sticks with one longer and shorter to make a cross. If you have older toddler, you can guide them to tie them together. For 3-year old kids, you need to tie for them.
3. Get them to stick the cross on the paper, then stick the clouds and button (represent sun).
4. Let them decorate the craft work.
5. Finally, write down the verse on the paper.

Church School Lesson: What Kind Are You?

Psalm 119:11
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Objective:
To teach the children that they must not only hear God's Word but also let it sink into their minds and hearts and believe it.

Lesson:
A farmer sowed seed in his field (the field were poorly prepared in those days). Seed were scattered by hand, not all seeds grow. The seed is the Word of God.
Some hearers have hard hearts - seeds fell on hard footpath
Some hearers have shallow hearts - seeds fell on thin layer of dirt over flat rock
Some hearers have crowded hearts - seeds fell among thorns
Some hearers have prepared hearts - seeds fell on good soil
Let God's Word sink into your heart.

I wanted to remind the children in order to grow, we must be in good soil. So, I use hand print to print a flower.

Craft:
1. Prepare stem and leaves, let the children colour in different green colour on the paper.
2. While waiting them to dry, paint the hand (any colour, choice of the children) and then print it on the paper then stick the stem and leaves on it.
3. Prepare a yellow circle as sun (optional), just to show the children we need sun to grow (sun = The Word of God)
4. Finally, paste a heart shape at the palm as centre of our life. This represent we have Christ in our growth.

Church School Lesson: Lost and Found

Isaiah 53:6
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turn to his own way.

Objective:
To use the parable of the three lost things to teach that people outside of Christ are lost in sin and in great danger - they need to be found by the Saviour.

Lesson:
The Lost Sheep - (some don't mean to be lost)
The shepherd had 100 sheep, one missing. He knew it was in danger and searched until he found it.  He gathered his neighbour for a party.
The Lost Silver - (some don't know they are lost)
A woman lost one of ten coins. She lit a candle and swept the floor. When she found the coin, she told her friends.
The Lost Son - (some only have themselves to blame, they chose to be lost)
A young man was fed up with life on a farm. He asked for money and left home. He wasted the money and his friends left him. He looked after pigs. He felt sorry and decided to go home. His father welcomed him and forgave him.
Everyone is lost in sin until they trust in Christ.

Craft:
1. Prepare the head and legs on sugar paper (or any black colour paper) then a body. I got this template from All Kids Network.com.
2. Cover the sheep’s body piece with glue.
3. Stick the 4 legs onto the bottom of the body.
4. Cover the rest of the sheep with cotton balls.
5. Glue the sheep’s head onto the body (on top of the cotton balls).
6. Glue the googly eyes on the head. Glue the red foam on the sheep’s face to make a smiling mouth.

Church School Lesson: Surprise Story

Matthew 22:39
Love your neighbour as yourself.

Objective:
To teach that God wants His children to so love people of all races that we will be ready to help them, no matter what it costs us.

Lesson:
The story of the Good Samaritan woman. The road to Jericho was steep and dangerous. A traveller was robbed and beaten. A priest came and passed by, a Levite looked and then went away. Both were religious men and Jews. A Samaritan treated the man's wounds and took him to an inn and paid money to get people to take care of him until he return. He had love in his heart. He did more than anybody would expect. He was a true neighbour. We should love and help people of all races.

Craft:
1. Draw a heart shape on a paper.
2. Get the children to roll some creep paper and stick on the heart shape. You can have your choice of colour.
3. Write down the verse on the paper and let the children to decorate the paper freely.

Merdeka Craft for Toddler

A very simple flag making craft for toddler.

Material:
1. Empty toilet roll (the cylinder shape).
2. Measure the height of the toilet roll and prepare the rectangle shape paper.
3. Prepare a star and a crescent.
4. Red and white creep paper.

1. First of all, get the children to colour the rectangle paper in blue using poster colour. After they've done, wait for it to dry. (Remember not to put too much water, it will take time to dry)
2. While waiting the blue one, colour the crescent and star in yellow. Then wait for it to dry.
3. While waiting for the yellow one, stick the blue paper on the empty toilet roll then follow by the crescent and star.
4. Then follow by the red and white creep paper (alternate the colour). We do not need to have exactly 14 strips just around the toilet roll. Just to let them know the colour of our flag.
5. Finally, punch a hole and put a string on it.
There you go... you can hang it up and celebrate the National Day! ;)

Church School Lesson: God First

Matthew 6:33
but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.

Objective:
To lead our children to have the right attitude towards things, so they will love and trust God rather than money or anything else.

Lesson:
Jesus warned about being greedy. A rich farmer had good crops, he planned to keep everything for himself. He foolishly thought only of this life. Christian should not worry about food and clothes. God provides for birds and flowers. We should think of ways to please God and our treasure stored in Heaven. Those who put God first know true happiness.

Craft:
1. Get the children to trace their hand print.
2. Write down GOD FIRST in big font in the middle.
3. You can use creep paper (roll it) or any form of decorative items and stick on the word to make GOD FIRST stand out.
Suggestion: For younger toddler (e.g. 3) I suggest to use creep paper (roll it, small one) as their hand print is small, the wording cannot be too big. Not enough place.

When they complete the craft, Hi-5 with them and shout "GOD FIRST" :)
They like it! and whenever they Hi-5, they will remember "GOD FIRST"!

Church School Lesson: Shine For Christ

Matthew 5:16
let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven

Objective:
To teach that by doing good things to others we can show them we belong to Jesus, and we might also lead them to trust in Jesus too.

Lesson:
I first get them to taste the salt. Every children get to taste it. I use organic salt. The children were excited. :) I then tell them the use of salt in olden days when they have no fridge, it helps to preserve food, it gives flavour to food. Just a little bit and the food will taste good. Salt is important; but it the salt is not salty, then it's no use already. Then I continue ask them about light. Is light important? Light to help us see, we can hide light, it shines in the darkness. I then get each child to hold a candle, off the light and light up the candle. Children were excited. When we're in darkness, the light shine, people around can see. (Story based on Matthew 5:13-16)

Craft:
Props/Materials:
For each child, two star shapes and a stick, different yellow poster colour, glittering decorative items, glue/double sided tape.

1. Before the class started, cut out all the stars and get your props ready.
2. First, let the children colour the two stars with different yellow colour. Brighter yellow, darker yellow, etc. (you may want to place some old newspaper on the table if you don't want the children to dirty it.) After finishing one let it dry then continue with the other. By the time you completed both, the first one should be dry by then. (tips: do not put too much of water, it will takes longer time to dry)
3. The children can start decorating the star with those glittering items. Put some glue on the star and start decorating. (tips: do not put too much glue, it will takes longer time to dry)
4. After decorating both stars, wait for it to dry. While waiting, you can usher the children to wash their hands.
5. After both stars are dried. You can either put double sided tape or glue behind the star, put the stick in between the stars and stick them together.

The children loves this. They feel they're like a fairy, some feel they're like a magician :) but I told them this one is to remind them to do good things for God and shine for Christ.

I find this craft is suitable for children from 2+ and above. Abigail was 2 years 9 months when she did this craft. She is able to colour the star by herself and put the decorative items herself. She only need help when she need to put the two stars together.

Church School Lesson: Alive After Dying

John 11:25
I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.

Objective:
To teach that there is life after death; that some time the bodies of all the dead will be raised, and Christians will go to be with Jesus forever.

Lesson:
Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick. His sister expected Jesus to come quickly. Jesus said the sickness wouldn't end in death and waited two days. He told the disciple Lazarus was dead and they went to see him. Martha and Mary wondered why Jesus didn't come immediately to save Lazarus. Jesus said Lazarus would rise again. He said Christians never really die. Jesus wept as He went to the grave He told them to take away the stone Lazarus came out when Jesus called him. All Christians' bodies will be raised and face judgement when Jesus returned.

Craft:
1. Prepare two circles (different colour) and one ice-cream stick for each child. I chose yellow as happy face and blue for sad face. You can have your own choice of colour.
2. First let the children roll the creep paper and stick on the circle paper as eyes, then let them colour it using poster colour.
3. I use red foam for my mouth. You can cut any shapes you like, as long as it shows happy or sad expression.
4. Then get the children to stick both side of faces together. You can use glue or double sided tape.
That's it! Another simple craft for toddler.

Whether we're happy or sad, Jesus knew and understand us. He can help us no matter what situation we're in. Trust in HIM.

Church School Lesson: Good Shepherd

John 10:11
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Objective:
To show that Jesus loves and leads and looks after His own people, like a shepherd caring for his sheep.

Lesson:
The shepherd stayed in the fields with the sheep. He risked his life to protect them from harm. He took them to shelter, as the door of the fold. Jesus will care for His sheep always. A shepherd protected his sheep because he loved them. Jesus died on the cross out of love for us. Jesus now lives to be our Good Shepherd. We should trust and follow Him.

Craft:
1. Prepare a green colour paper as a meadow/field
2. Let the children trace their hand print on another colour paper. Then cut it out.
3. Let the children stick the cotton ball on the hand print palm, then draw an eye.
That's it! It's a very simple craft for toddler.

Church School Lesson: Creation

God, the Creator, knows everything and can do anything. He is powerful enough to create all things. No one is wiser or more powerful than God. The Bible tells us how God created the world. In Genesis 1:1 says, In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.

God created the world in six days. The Bible tells what God created on each day. When God first created the earth, it was dark and not in any shape. The Bible also says the earth was wet. I then ask the children to close their eyes... what do you sees? They answered me "NOTHING". Yes! Darkness is when you cannot see anything. Just like at night when there is no light! Then God says, "Let there be light and there was light." (Genesis 1:3) God just say and things will happened. Isn't God is so powerful? The light God called it day and darkness called it night. This was first day.

And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse "sky." This was second day.

And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. This was third day.

And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. This was fourth day.

And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." This was fifth day.

And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. This was sixth day.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Summary:

The lesson takes about 15mins. After the lesson, I thought them a simple verse from the Bible.
Hebrews 11:3 - the worlds were framed by the word of God (KJV)

I conclude the lesson with a simple craft and again, the idea I got it from my all time favourite site - Merryn's blog. I modified the craft to suit my children... very simple and the toddler enjoy doing it.

Get the children trace their hand print on a yellow colour paper, then cut it out (some with teacher's help). Then paste the hand print at the paper plate. It looks like a sun.

the Preschool Class with their craft,
the verse was written on top of the paper plate.

Father's Day Craft

I use Exodus 20:12 for the children memory verses "Honour your father and your mother". I help the toddler to understand what it means to honour our parents. Honour means respect and obey, it's an action, we need to listen to our parents to what they say. No one is always right, everyone make mistake along the way, but no matter what, we still need to respect our parents by listen to them.

In conjunction with Father's Day, I get them to think what can they do for their fathers. Some said make a card, some said give him a kiss, etc. I then challenge them to make the whole next week a special week for their father by giving them a book of coupon with a special treat written in it. E.g. This coupon entitle daddy to enjoy a bible story, big hug, big kiss, massage, etc. On top of that, they need obey their parents.

I end the lesson by getting them to make a card for their father. I get the idea from Merryn's blog.

More practice

After completing the glass painting, Abigail keep asking for more art and craft so I let her do it on the paper. I guided her with four flowers and let her do what she likes on the paper. I can see she's trying to print a flower shape but I guess she did not know how to make the flower shape yet. She ended up keep printing the dot next to each other.

Instead of doing a flower shape, she did a line of dots...

the final product - the nice flowers are with guidance, those dot dot without shapes were Abigail's creativity :P I then hold her finger to draw stems and leaves...

Glass Painting for Toddler

I was thinking what to do for my mom as Mother's Day gift for this year. She's a very practical lady and do not like her children to waste money buying gift that she might not need... so, doing craft is a way to express ourselves.

I thought of having Abigail to do it with me. On one hand, I can get her involve and on the other hand, I also want her to pick up the value of doing something using our hand for another person to show our love.

When I told her we're going to do craft, she will shout out with joy. She just love doing art and craft. :) I get ready all the material on the table and she's jumping on the floor showing her excitement.

Then I get her seated on my lap and brief her what we were going to do. I hold her finger, dip into the colour and then print it on the glass to make a shape of a flower. These steps repeated until there are many flowers on the glass. Abigail enjoyed doing it. She wanted to do it on her own but she did not know how to make it a flower shape yet. She can just dip her finger into the colour and print it on the glass, then she need guidance to print a flower shape on the glass.
