Children Craft Day

Date: 23 October, 2010
Time: 2-4pm
Venue: MDC, DU

It's an annual event for MDC to organise a craft day and this year the craft for the children is making a scrapbook.

We have two groups, the younger and older groups of children. The category of the younger group is from 3 to 8 years old and the older group is from 9 to 12 years old.

I'm helping out at the younger group. The younger group is much easier, all children has to follow the teacher design and they are called to follow what the teacher guide them. E.g. where to put the tree, the bushes, sheep, flowers and wording. Well, the children still have their choice, e.g. choice of the colour provided for them, choice of the position e.g. bush on the left or right and the placement and colour of the wording, lastly the placement of the flowers.

After they have completed with the cover, they need to stick the pocket (to hold the photo) for the pages inside. Abigail can do quite well, she likes all the sticking work however she has not come to the stage where she has to plan whether she has enough space or not and the matching of colours. I have to guide her along and maintime to guide other younger children as well.

For the older group, it's all their creativity. They design their own cover and do what they like. They can follow the teacher's example or do what they want. Paper materials are all provided.
