Apple Tree

I got this idea from the net. I first draw a tree on the drawing paper, then get the children to colour it with water colour. Abigail colour hers all by herself and Joshua with 30% of my help. He can paint quite well... then leave it to dry.

I've prepared some apples shape in red paper earlier. When the paper was dried, the children stick the apples on the tree.

I help Joshua to put the glue as he can't control the amount of glue that he needs yet.
Abigail did it all by herself.

sticking... sticking...

Then put them in the toilet roll

It's done! :)

Autumn

This is one of the craft that I like best! Probably autumn colours is my favourite and whatever that comes along, I will find favour in it.

I personally love this piece of art very much. When I look at it, I feel very nice! :)
I first prepare the vine and the branch and colour them with pencil colour. Then I punch the leave in 4 different colours, red, orange, yellow and green. Then I get Abigail to paste the leaves on the branches randomly, mix with different colours and then some leaves on the floor.

Autumn was the first piece, the next one I'll do will be Winter... follow by Spring and Summer. Then I'll frame up the four season of the year to conclude Abigail 2011's project. :)

Birthday Cards

During the Popular Book Fair in September, I bought some art & craft material for Abigail and myself to enjoy doing some crafty work. :) In September month Abigail had done 5 cards for 5 birthday girl/boy. :) I have to admit that I'm not a camera person, I dont have the habit of taking photo now and then. Even the 2 cards below, I only remember before I sent it out by post. I have to unseal them to take photo then seal it again.

On 2 September, Abigail did a card for her best friend, Christabel. It was a simple card. I guess one day I have to go to Bel's house to snap a photo of her birthday card. :)

On 11 September, Abigail did a simple card to Aunty Wan Siang for her birthday.

On 22 September, Abigail did two cards for Dorcas, her cousin and Tai Yi's Birthday. I then tell her we're going to send the card to them by post to give them a surprise! She was very excited. I only sent out on 26 Sept, the birthday of Dorcas and they receive the card on 29 Sept. I would said it's fast! from KL to Kuching is only 3 days!

On 1 October, she did a card for Zen Xuen, her kindy friend which is also my school-mate's son! :)

I first prepare the layout of the card then I'll share my idea to Abigail what I planned to. It's kind of instruction to her but in a discussion way. :) I get her to do all the stamping e.g. balloons, party hat, cake, gift box, bubble. After stamping it looks a bit blend... then i get her to give some colour to it.
This is the front page of the card.

Suppose, I wanted her to do all the writing but her handwriting is really messy :Þ and being a fussy mama, I cant bear with the mess! So, I did the main writing and get her to write her own name only. :Þ Then I get her to choose a sticker for Dorcas and put some stars to light up the card.

This card is for Tai Yi. I did the front page and do the design cutting with those special scissors.

I then get Abigail to do the stamping and colouring. I learnt a lesson that day. Never get the child to do two cards in one go... she's tired. and when she did her colouring, she didnt give her best.
Then she choose a sticker and sign the card... put some sticker stars to light up the card! :)

Stamping

Using the lady's finger to do some pattern. It's free and easy, chop whatever they like.

Joshua is happily messing up his paper... no idea what is in his mind!
He doesn't want to follow my instruction or way... and just do what he wants.

This is what I originally plan to do... but ended up, they're doing random chop! :)

Making a crown

I come across a website where it shows using a paper plate to do a crown, very simple craft. First of all, just need to get the child to decorate the paper plate, then fold into half and cut into something like a pizza shape. Then you will get something like what the children are wearing (James was not around, no one is taking photo while we're doing the craft).

After 2 hand prints, papa started to take some photo, Joshua is so happy!

Do good!

Lesson 5 is about the story of the Good Samaritan.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
After the story, Abigail has to find the way for the Samaritans to the Inn then we did a good job badge.

Birthday card for kong kong

May, 2011

My dad's birthday was a week right after my mom's birthday. I get Abigail to do a card for kong kong.

Steps:
1. First, I draw a heart shape on a paper, then get her to paint it then leave it to dry.
2. Then I cut it out and get her to paste on the yellow card.
3. Then paste the wording "Jesus loves you" on the paper and then get her to paste the glittering items on it to make it shine!
4. Then I get her and Joshua to paste the star on the card randomly. Yes! Even Joshua can do it. :)
5. Finally, I hold Abigail's hand to write her name and Joshua's name on the card.

Leaf Print

After the lesson on senses (lesson 4). There's a craft for them to do. That Sunday, after Abigail's nap, I bring her out to plug some leaves. Let her touch and feel the leaf.

When we get back home, then we start to do the craft.

First, colour the leaf. As usual, Abigail will choose her favourite colour - PINK. I actually wanted her to do in three different colour, that would look nice! But she insist to have a favourite colour only!

Colour the leaf

Paste it on the paper, then remove it.

Finger Print Blossom Flower

Since I started a few art and craft with her, Abigail is asking me for art and craft session everyday. That day I was busy with some house hold chores, so I just draw the branches and ask her to use her finger print to do the blossom flower at the end of the branches. She did it happily. Actually I also let Joshua do one on his baby chair... he's using yellow colour. But when I turn back, havoc! havoc!! He is not printing on the paper! He's doing it every where... the whole baby chair is yellow! I've to carry him out wash him and clean the baby chair! Joshua is not ready for any art and craft yet. He's 21 months... but no! Not yet for anything... just colouring or I should say scribbling first.

It will look better if the branches are thicker.
The next time I do it, I'll follow Si Theng's one... nice!

3 Senses

Lesson 4 is teaching the three senses. Smell, Taste and Hear.

Yellow colour for smell.
Get the child to circle all those items that we can smell.

Red colour for taste.
Get the child to circle all those items that we can taste.

Blue colour for hear.
Get the child to circle all those items that we can hear.

Cutting Skill

Lesson 3 is about matching the right clothing at the right part of the body. Abigail manage to match all of them correctly. Just those lines looks very messy. I wonder I should teach her to use ruler to draw lines! :Þ Let me find out this from her kindy teacher.

Match the correct clothing at the right part of body.
She also wrote her name.

Then I prepare some sample of clothing to teach her how to use scissor and cut straight line.
I first hold her hand to cut then let her cut on her own.
My girl got a very "chin chat" attitude :( dont care... as long as the whole thing is cut out.
I hope this is just temporal... must help her to break this bad habit.

after cutting out.

then get her to paste on the paper - she done it all by herself (pasting part).

Fridge Magnet

I got this idea from Merryn's blog http://www.crafty-crafted.com/fridge-magnets/animated-characters-fridge-magnetnote-holder/.

This is a very simple and nice craft.

Steps:
Child choose a sticker and paste on a hard card.
Then cut it out and paste it on a peg.
At the back of the peg, paste a magnet on it.
That's it! :)

Pasting Craft for Toddler

Abigail was down with viral infection. During the days she was at home, she done this craft.

Materials
1. Creep paper (few colours)
2. Paper

Steps
I drew a flower on a white paper.
Prepare the creep paper by cutting into smaller pieces and roll it.
Then get Abigail to paste the creep paper on the flower.
I first start with yellow colour with her after completed, red one, then green one. She put glue and do the pasting all by herself.
After completed the craft and let it dry up. Then I paste it into a bigger paper.
I let her choose some sticker to decorate the card.
Lastly, I hold her hand to write those wording.

This craft is very simple and it's suitable for toddler to do. Abigail was 3.5 years old when she did this and she can do it all by herself. In fact the rolling part, she can participate too. If you have the time, can get the child to roll the paper and do the pasting all by the child. I believe the child can handle and perhaps they will enjoy doing it. :)
